We are certainly seeing the signs of fall here in NorthEast Ohio.  First, I just noticed all the leaves are red on my neighbors tree.  It is pretty!  I do love the change of seasons that we get in Ohio!

We bottled our wine today.  94 bottles!  Another sure sign of fall. We need to bottle last years wine in order to make room for the new juice we plan to pick up in  a week or so.  Here  is a picture:

This is a picture of the wine we bottled this time last year but it looks essentially the same this year so I figured why take another picture.  We buy our juice at Debonne Vineyards.  This year we bottled Niagara, DeChaunec and Riesling.  We mixed half of the Niagara and DeChaunec and made a great rose.  Now to just wait until it ages enough to drink it.  That is the hardest part!

I did some sewing yesterday.  I an currently working on Silhouette Patterns #175, Valerie’s Top.

I got a little hung up on the collar and I had to rip out the gathering but I think I figured it out. If I was not too tired after 7 hours of bottling wine, I would have worked on it more today. But I should be able to work on it a few evenings this week. I have to say, the pattern is very easy so far and it looks like the fit will be great.  We will see in a few days.

I really love this time of year. When you live in Ohio, you really cannot complain about the change in seasons.  It’s all apart of life. I enjoy it and I am grateful I can appreciate it!

What is your favorite time of the year?

I almost finished my skirt. I attached the lining to the skirt, sewed the casing and put in the elastic…then I tried it on!!!  It is a little tight… Not really wearable right now.  But that gives me a goal as 10 lbs should do it so I am motivated since I really love the skirt. I did not hem it yet as I will do this when I can fit into it. I always need something as a reward and finishing the skirt will be my reward for focusing on better eating and exercise habits.  I will post a pictured when I have it complete.

I was cleaning up my sewing and craft room today. Well, my soon to be sewing and craft room. It is the room in the house that gets everything that has nowhere else to go. Since I have started sewing more, my Mom is giving me an old sewing table she has so I am trying to organize it. Anyway, I have had this couch slip cover taking up tons of space in the room for so long. I contemplated throwing it out.  But it is tan duck cloth/canvas. Very sturdy. I had used a small part of it to make a hat for a scarcrow costume last year but there is still most of it left.  Then a thought occurred to me. I can use it to recover the seats of my kitchen chairs.

I have had these chairs for about 14 years and my sister had them before that, so they have not been recovered for probably 20 years. And they desparately need it. I do not want to spend a ton of money when I know I can do it myself. Also, fabric is so expensive.

So I spent a while this afternoon using my seam ripper to remove the ruffle and the elastic (with the help of my cat Addie) and I took it apart. There is plenty of fabric to cover my chairs.  I want to see if I can dye the fabric or add some bling for some color so this will be a project for the fall.

Here is a picture of Addie’s approval of the fabric:

As you can see, I was also able to save yards of elastic that is still in really good shape.  Now, I just have to decide the color for the fabric!!! Too fun!

I had a great, productive weekend!

Well, it’s almost Friday. I only have to work half a day tomorrow the second half of the day is our company picnic!  Whoo Hoo!

I won a free dress pattern today. Thank you Lisette.  It is a really nice dress pattern so once I finish the skirt I am making (which I hope will be Sunday), I need to start thinking of what fabric I would like for that dress.  I have really starting wearing more skirts and dresses vs. pants.  I am not sure why but who cares, its fun!

About a mile from my house is an outdoor amphitheatre where they hold concerts with tribute bands in the summer.  It’s called River Rock at the Amp.    Saturday is a band called “Wish You Were Here”  Obviously, a Pink Floyd cover band. We saw them last year and plan to go this weekend.  It is always a great time and cheap too!  It should be a fun weekend.

I will post when I have more sewing projects done!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE thrift stores and consignment shops.  From purses, to shoes, to skirts and coats and fun wine glasses.   I love to find second hand treasures CHEAP!   The last Friday of every month is 1/2 price day at our local Goodwill and it is like heaven.  I plan on going on my way home from work this Friday to see what treasures I can find!  I went to a consignment shop on my way home and found a cute pink coat with small white polka dots.   It is long but meant to be worn and a jacket with clothes.  I wanted to post a picture but it was hard to take picture of it on the hanger and I don’t have anything to wear with it.  I am thinking of making a white tank dress for next spring that would go great with it!  I also found a darling scarf.    And the prices..!!!!  I am telling you, if you have not tried second-hand clothing stores or thrift stores, visit the closest one today!  You may be surprised the amazing stuff you can find.    Good luck and happy bargain hunting.

In the office where I work, we designate one day per month for a birthday treat to celebrate the birthdays of all staff members in the month.  They try to change up the birthday treat and not just get cake each month.   Well, since its summer, they got ice cream this month.  DQ Dilly Bars to be exact!!!  I cannot remember that last time I had a Butterscotch DQ Dilly Bar. I don’t eat a lot of ice cream but I used to eat these as a kid. It was so fun to have them again.  By the way, I prefer the hand dipped ones that they made when I was a kid versus the pre-packaged ones they have today.  But, I still felt like a kid again enjoying the sweet treat.  Now that it something to be grateful for!

I decided that I would like to do more garment sewing. Like weight loss and exercise, sewing is one of those on again, off again things. I have been sewing since I was a teenager and my mother sews so I have a good teacher, but I have never done it regularly. This week I made a dress.     My mother gave me the fabric and I found a pattern at the thrift store for 25 cents.  The most expensive thing on this dress for me was the thread!!!   I was actually impressed when it came out as a wearable garment.  I wore  it to work today and received many compliments. It looks much shinier on camera though. And my little cat, Buddy, seemed to make his way into my photo.

I really enjoyed sewing this and I am looking at my next idea which will be a shirt of some sort. I just have not decided yet.    I also bought some really psychedelic fabric on eBay to make some make up bags and check book covers for gifts.  I am going to make every attempt to keep this up and I felt really confident today when I wore this dress.

Here is a great quote that I found today:

Once you accept the fact that you’re not perfect, then you develop some confidence.  Rosalynn Carter

I have not been around in a while.  I have been exercising in the mornings and going to bed really early and I just cannot seem to find the time.

I am grateful right now that my boyfriend has his job.  He works for GM and it was touch and go for a while. He has been back to work since September and that is really good for him.   I am grateful we are both so successful and financially responsible.  You never know how much you appreciate your job until you do not have it.  I heard a woman at the hair salon complaining that her husband got called back to work but now he works too much overtime. I know it sucks to work so much but many people did not get called back at all.  Sometimes it is hard to appreciate what you have.

I have an event coming up this weekend for an organization I belong to and I am really looking forward to that.  I work hard in the League of Women Voters of Trumbull County and I am currently 1st VP.  I am really beginning to enjoy it.

Summer is coming.  We are planning our vacation that we will be taking in July. I cannot wait.  Life is good!

Gratitude today comes from spending a great day with my family.  A sewing group my mother belongs to had their annual meeting and I went with her and my middle sister.  We had such a fun time. I treated myself to a purse and bought some birthday gifts for my co worker’s.  It was a fun, relaxing morning with  no worries.

I am also grateful for my health. I know I said this the other day but I am grateful for it everyday.  One of the women at the group has a grown daughter with ALS. They had previously had a fundraiser for her and she was thanking everyone for their help. The daughter with ALS was there and they explained how they were going to use the funds to buy her a device that she could text into that would talk/speak for her since she no longer had the ability to speak.  That must be so frustating for her.  I hope that if God chooses to give me a debilitating disease that he gives me the strength he gives everyone else. I looked at her and thought I could never do that.

My sister brought me an early birthday gift.  A giftcard to my favorite clothing store and some of my favorite snacks from Trader Joe’s.  Edamame Crackers…

The rest of the day I spent working on some crafts and washing the dishes. I am grateful for relaxing, stress free days.

Have you ever been driving on the freeway and thought about hitting a tree to see if you would die and see Heaven? You have heard accounts of those who have died and seen Heaven in some form.  And does anyone see Hell and come back?  Noone has written a book about that! At least not that I am aware of.  Has anyone died, seen Hell and returned to live life? Have they lived life any differently,  like those who have seen Heaven often do?

I have thought about this.  Not that I would seriously crash my car to see what happens. I am not that crazy!  I just wonder what path God would chose for me.

This ideas makes me think of how I can live differently today. What if I did die in a accident on the way home?  Goodness, my family would have to clean my house!  I cannot leave that to them!  All joking aside…I should try to keep this in mind as I make my choices everyday.  How can I live differently not only to make my life better but to make life better for someone else?  What about you?  How can you live differently?
