This weekend was productive for me. I finished sewing a shirt that I had cut out last weekend. Wearable garment #2!!!!  I do not have a picture, sorry.  And we made piccalilli relish. FYI…relish made from green tomatoes, red and green peppers and onion with cider vinegar, etc.   I do not like pickles or pickle relish so I like to make a batch of this every few years.  Also, I did about 3 loads of laundry and found some great bargains at half price day at the Goodwill!!!    Great weekend!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE thrift stores and consignment shops.  From purses, to shoes, to skirts and coats and fun wine glasses.   I love to find second hand treasures CHEAP!   The last Friday of every month is 1/2 price day at our local Goodwill and it is like heaven.  I plan on going on my way home from work this Friday to see what treasures I can find!  I went to a consignment shop on my way home and found a cute pink coat with small white polka dots.   It is long but meant to be worn and a jacket with clothes.  I wanted to post a picture but it was hard to take picture of it on the hanger and I don’t have anything to wear with it.  I am thinking of making a white tank dress for next spring that would go great with it!  I also found a darling scarf.    And the prices..!!!!  I am telling you, if you have not tried second-hand clothing stores or thrift stores, visit the closest one today!  You may be surprised the amazing stuff you can find.    Good luck and happy bargain hunting.

I did some more sewing this weekend. I finished a purse that I made out of old jeans with butterflys embroidered on them and a lunch bag using this wonderful tutorial:

I do not have pictures right now but I will try to get them uploaded later.  The stitching on the purse is less than perfect so I don’t want to show it off too much.

Planning on making Piccililli relish this weekend and maybe canning some sweet hot peppers.

Oh, and we make our own wine.  We racked it last weekend and should be able to bottle in September.  Here is a photo of last years “vintage.”

We reuse wine bottles. I cannot remember how many bottles we had.  I think like…96.  I really enjoy having a “wine cellar.”  We are not experts by any means but I am enjoying the “tasting and testing.”   We are making a reisling, Niagara and a red called DeChaunac.

Good night, and Later!!!!

In the office where I work, we designate one day per month for a birthday treat to celebrate the birthdays of all staff members in the month.  They try to change up the birthday treat and not just get cake each month.   Well, since its summer, they got ice cream this month.  DQ Dilly Bars to be exact!!!  I cannot remember that last time I had a Butterscotch DQ Dilly Bar. I don’t eat a lot of ice cream but I used to eat these as a kid. It was so fun to have them again.  By the way, I prefer the hand dipped ones that they made when I was a kid versus the pre-packaged ones they have today.  But, I still felt like a kid again enjoying the sweet treat.  Now that it something to be grateful for!

I decided that I would like to do more garment sewing. Like weight loss and exercise, sewing is one of those on again, off again things. I have been sewing since I was a teenager and my mother sews so I have a good teacher, but I have never done it regularly. This week I made a dress.     My mother gave me the fabric and I found a pattern at the thrift store for 25 cents.  The most expensive thing on this dress for me was the thread!!!   I was actually impressed when it came out as a wearable garment.  I wore  it to work today and received many compliments. It looks much shinier on camera though. And my little cat, Buddy, seemed to make his way into my photo.

I really enjoyed sewing this and I am looking at my next idea which will be a shirt of some sort. I just have not decided yet.    I also bought some really psychedelic fabric on eBay to make some make up bags and check book covers for gifts.  I am going to make every attempt to keep this up and I felt really confident today when I wore this dress.

Here is a great quote that I found today:

Once you accept the fact that you’re not perfect, then you develop some confidence.  Rosalynn Carter

I don’t know if I have mentioned in previous blogs that I am working to balance good eating habits and exercise.  At 41, I really need to take control of my health.  This is part of my try it again…I always seem to be trying to lose weight, trying to improve my exercise.  I joined a challenge group to do Jillian Micheals 30 Day Shred. We are on day 14 and I have done it every day but 3. I moved up to level 2 today to give myself more of a challenge.  Here is a link to the website if you are interested

I am so grateful for the internet that provides us with so much information and support on so many topics.   It has certainly helped me stay motivated and accountable.

My boyfriend sold a house he owned in Columbus. I will not go into the entire long story leading up the sale of the house but it sold after being on the market for only 6 weeks.  We are so happy.  Closing date is the last Friday in May and then we are out from under it.  We will be free of a lot of burdens.   I think this year we can enjoy our summer.

I will get up early tomorrow and exercise and then begin my week toward health and wellness.

I am really learning to appreciate life every day.

I have not been around in a while.  I have been exercising in the mornings and going to bed really early and I just cannot seem to find the time.

I am grateful right now that my boyfriend has his job.  He works for GM and it was touch and go for a while. He has been back to work since September and that is really good for him.   I am grateful we are both so successful and financially responsible.  You never know how much you appreciate your job until you do not have it.  I heard a woman at the hair salon complaining that her husband got called back to work but now he works too much overtime. I know it sucks to work so much but many people did not get called back at all.  Sometimes it is hard to appreciate what you have.

I have an event coming up this weekend for an organization I belong to and I am really looking forward to that.  I work hard in the League of Women Voters of Trumbull County and I am currently 1st VP.  I am really beginning to enjoy it.

Summer is coming.  We are planning our vacation that we will be taking in July. I cannot wait.  Life is good!

Today is my birthday.  My 41st birthday to be exact.  I am grateful that I am healthy and successful. I was at the bank today opening a checking account and had far more money in my savings account than I realized. I am grateful that I am financially sound.

Today was a beautiful day in NorthEast Ohio.  Sunny, 78 degrees. I scheduled a day off today so I had the whole day to have fun. It was great.  We made lemon chicken on the grill, sweet potato fries and I am enjoying a glass of reisling right now! I am grateful that I can appreciate my birthday and not be upset or depressed that I am getting older.

Tomorrow we are going to an Elton John concert.  What a great weekend!

I am looking forward to two really great days, many more in fact. Tomorrow is my birthday and I have the day off work so I got a few gifts, some cards and many well wishes at works today. It was so nice.  I am grateful that I have such a great place to work and great friends who appreciate what I do.

My boyfriend is selling a house he owns in Columbus and we are in process of dealing with the offer after the inspection. Who would’ve thought a few nuts and bolts would provide so much aggrevation.  But it is all worth it.  We are almost there. I am grateful that we have patience and a great agent to help us through.

The weather was fantastic today. I realize that may not be something to be too thankful for but it is.   There is just something special about seeing the sun shine!  All in all it was a great day and I am looking forward to another great day tomorrow!  Have a wonderful Friday, God Bless and Be Grateful!

I had a coupon code for 25% off and free shipping plus two gift cards to my favorite store so I am in a really great mood.  What should I include in my gratitude journal today?  Besides the good deal on clothes.

I seem to be beginning to repeat my thoughts. Not much happens in my life during the week sometimes.

I am grateful that I made it safely too and from work today. Not that there was anything to be worried about but you never know what it going to happen on the freeway.

I am glad that I have a good relationship with my family. I have heard severals stories from coworkers or friends lately that are sad.  Family that just does not get along for so many silly reasons. I suppose they don’t think they are silly. Life is too short to not appreciate your family.

I hope to get up early tomorrow. This is part of my goal to start working out before work. I figure if I get up earlier for 4 or 5 days, I will be used to it and when I get up early to exercise it will not be as hard.  Wish me luck!
